I took this picture this past summer at a small tractor and steam engine show in Pennsylvania. While a young amish boy was maintaining my dad’s engine alone, I asked him if I could take his picture. He jumped at the chance and I ended up capturing an image of the oldest 8 year old I’ve ever met.
Goshen, Indiana, 2012 - Three Amish siblings named Justin, James and Suzanne shoot hoops as laundry dries in the backyard of their 31 acre farm house. Nine brothers and sisters in all, their father is a blacksmith who specializes in horseshoes, and their mother is a very nice woman who let me take this picture. During this game of horse, they spoke a mix of English and Pennsylvania Dutch.
